Local knowledge of Surfers Paradise
Below you will find some of the local hot spots that have been tried and tested by both Ian and Marion and their guests.
For your convenience:
Centro: an eight minute walk north. Range of shopping including a large supermarket (Woolworths)
Convenience Store: for milk, newspapers, snacks - along Surfers Paradise Boulevard, a shop in either direction, north or south, two minute walk.
Wine Shop: to purchase beer/wine/spirits - exit property via gate adjacent to pool, turn left then right onto Surfers Paradise Boulevard heading north. You will find an Alfresco Italian Restaurant, Fish & Chip shop , BWS Wine Shop, and ATM - two minutes walk.
Breakfast: great family breakfast right on the beach at Northcliffe Surf Club - exit front of property, turn left, then right and walk a short distance. The Surf Club is a large single storey maroon building.
Shopping Centres:
Pacific Fair, Broadbeach or Robina Town Centre: Both large and offering a great range of shops, cafes plus cinema complexes. Great shopping guaranteed to hurt your credit card! A days entertainment !
Australia Fair, Southport: Large multi storey shopping complex. A smaller version of Pacific Fair, K Mart only, no other department store.
Harbour Town, Runaway Bay: Large discount shopping area that features some bargains and also has cinema complex. Some quality seconds from major labels are available here, taxi ride - approximately $30.00 or catch the bus, see reception.
Centro, Surfers Paradise: A short walk away approximately eight minutes. Lots of souvenirs and touristy things and a few good shops as well. Hard Rock Café located at front entry. Worth having a walk around. Also features McDonalds, KFC facing onto the beach !!
Markets:
If you love food, on the first and third Saturday of every month, the Marina Mirage Shopping Centre hosts a great farmer's market. From homemade chocolate to pastry and yoghurt, Indian curries to duck sausages. Starts at 7.00 am - all over by 11.30 am. Take an empty stomach as you can sample nearly everything !!! Taxi ride - approximately $20.00 one way.
Carrara Markets: Large permanent market open Saturday and Sunday. Clothes, food hall, fruit & vege, bric-a-brac, etc all here. Catch the bus - ask at Reception for details.
Dining Out:
Surfers Paradise: Two recommended dining out places in easy walking distance from Surfers Century are;
- The Northcliffe Surf Club is a great place for friendly good value dining.
- The Watermark Hotel: Amalfi restaurant is recommended for fine dining open Tuesday to Saturday. Waves buffet restaurant is open 7 days
Broadbeach: Trendy, new, range of cafes, restaurants and bars, busy atmosphere, adjacent to Phoenician Resort, (25 min) walk from this area to the casino and only a short taxi ride - approximately $14.00 one way.
Tedder Avenue, Main Beach: Large local crowd, a well established upmarket area, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Mixture of cuisines, lots of expensive cars and white fluffy dogs, very popular evenings, taxi ride - approximately $18.00 one way.
Marina Mirage: Home of the Gold Coast Sheraton which is architecturally interesting and certainly worth a look. Their buffet is very popular for Sunday lunch. Next door is the Palazzo Versace Hotel which has a superb evening buffet. Adjacent is a range of restaurants some of which overlook the Marina, taxi ride - approximately $20.00 one way.
